Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in the world. The game board is divided into 4 boards - white home board, white outer board, black home board and black outer board - each board contains 6 triangles.
The game is always played with two players playing against each other, each player has 15 checkers of their own colour. The players then roll two six-sided dice alternately. The rolled dice numbers decide how many fields the checkers can move forward. The values of the two dice are used either individually or combined. The numbers on the two dice can therefore be added together to move a single checker that total amount of spaces forward, or the two numbers on the dice can be used separately to move two different checkers the respective amount of spaces forward. But the checkers may only be placed on 'open' fields (i.e. fields that do not contain more that one of the opposing players checkers). Depending on the version of the game, a player may have to skip his turn if he can not move his checkers forward to an 'open' place.
The aim is to get all of the your checkers in your own home board (triangles 1-6) and then to bear them off the field. The player to bear off all of his checkers first wins the game.
PLEASE NOTE: Backgammon can now be played in 5 variants: Backgammon, Tavli (which consists of 3 different rounds, 'Portes' (1), 'Plakoto' (2) and 'Fevga' (3), as well as by the rules of the individual rounds of Tavli.
